Taya Walter is a filmmaker and screenwriter, born and raised in Calgary, AB. An active member of Calgary’s independent film community since 2017, she has created 4 short films that have played at various film festivals, where she worked as the writer, director, and executive producer for each. Since July 2021, she has been working in the film industry as an Assistant Director on various projects that film in Calgary, including shows for HBO, Apple TV, Amazon, CBC, Paramount+, Hallmark, APTN, and multiple independent films as a proud member of the Director’s Guild of Canada (DGC). As a screenwriter her scripts have placed in various contests and labs, including the Tracking Board Launch Pad, PAGE Screenwriting Awards, CineStory TV Retreat and Fellowship, Sundance Episodic Lab, and the Nicholl Fellowship (top 20% on a first-time entry). She is also the recipient of grants from Calgary Arts Development and the Alberta Media Fund, the latter of which is helping fund her 2SLGBTQIA+ half-hour dramedy series.

   Taya is the founder of Ammolite Entertainment, named after her home province’s official gemstone. She is committed to telling stories with layered and complex female protagonists, with a keen emphasis on widespread, international appeal, and mainstream entertainment for a variety of audiences.
